3rd World Farmer is a new kind of game. It aims at simulating the real-world mechanisms that cause and sustain poverty in 3rd World countries.
In the game, the player gets to manage an African farm, and is soon confronted with the often difficult choices that poverty and conflict necessitate. We find this kind of experience efficient at making the issues relevant to people, because players tend to invests their hopes in a game character whose fate depends on him. The developers aim at making the player "experience" the injustices, rather than being told about them, so as to stimulate a deeper and more personal reflection on the topics...
The game has the potential to be an eye-opener to people who have become accustomed to the ordinary means of communicating third world desperation. The aim is to have everybody play the game, reflect, discuss and act on it. The game is well suited to start off discussions about 3rd World issues, so we also encourage teachers to use it in their classes.

The Flash Gaming Network: by Shawn from afro-ninja.com 3rd World Farmer is a simulation/strategy game where you must overcome the hardships of your location and raise your family, plant crops, and make money. When played correctly it’s a fairly short sim game, but still provides a decent amount of gameplay. Read more of this review...

I played it for one heckuva long time, and made it to 500 turns! I also learned a lot about farms, like how livestock helps and such. --Philonecron 2. Fun learning experience!kember16, RegisteredThis game is pretty interesting and easy. I played for over 90 turns. Just increase your income each year and you can send your kids to school and add things to make life on the farm easier and better for the family. A great way to learn about the hardships of life in developing countries. 1. this game is HARD!!!greenday_crazyzach, Unregisteredwhat the?!?! this game shows a lot...with the whole "more than 25,000 people die every year" and stuff...but how do you succeed?!?! the highest score i got was !350! |
