3DLanguage: Spain is a virtual Spanish town for learning and practicing
Spanish. The developers have combined the Torque Game Engine with a very robust speech recognition engine to make a compelling
interactive experience. Some of the development team went so far as to live
in Spain to make sure they got it right.
Virtual Spaniards inhabit the town, waiting for you to interact with
them.
The conversations are the heart of the program and take place in
an interface called the Voice Box. The VoiceBox contains both sides of the dialog in Spanish, a phonetic
pronunciation guide, and English. The initial release includes 8
characters with 2+ conversations each, covering the basics of
conversational Spanish: pleasantries, directions, shopping, weather,
etc.
The player has the ability to:
- Hear entire sentences before speaking them
- Hear single words
- Bring up help and definitions for each word
- Pause or rewind the conversation to practice specific sentences
- Receive numerical ratings on how accurately you spoke the sentences
- Selectively turn off the Spanish, phonetic, and/or English words to practice without the help they provide
- Turn off the entire VoiceBox for a real test!
In addition, many of the objects in the world are interactive. When you
mouse over them they show the name of the object in Spanish. If you
right click on the object it brings up a dialog box with more
information and a speaker box to let you hear the word.
Features:
- State of the art Speech Recognition puts you in the conversation.
- Virtual characters who never judge you (or your mistakes).
- Hone your Spanish skills with classroom word practice.
- Objects in the town are embedded with cultural information.
- Real conversational practice in a safe environment.
